Pou Herenga Tangata
Albert Cash and Lizzy Williams are the tutors for Pou Herenga Tangata.
They were always keen to work with youth and when the oppurtunity came up to take an Alternative Education class they pounced on the idea.
People in PHT are Debbie Davis – Manager, Albert Cash – Operational manager/tutor, Lizzie Williams & Joe Latu – Assistant tutors
PHT are involved in creative learning programmes to awhi & grow the skills of our taitamariki. Some of these include NCEA, Waka with Matua Bill, Fishing, Visiting local Marae. Much of our work is focused on “Ko wai Au” and how we can contribute to our whanau & wider community.
To qualify to get into Pou Herenga Tangata students have to be aged from 13-16, have to be excluded from a mainstream school or you have to be attached to an established organization either a school or Social Services.
“Our aim is to create an environment thats safe, where the student feels accepted, appreciated and wanted. Our team works hard and our Primary focus is on the holistic wellbeing of our students” -Joe Riwhi.
